Head of Marketing and Communications

The successful candidate will have most of the following:

  • a relevant qualification for the position - at least up to first degree level
  • excellence in organisation, leading and managing teams, and achieving targets
  • excellent people skills, including experience in customer relationship management
  • highly developed interpersonal, communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • proven ability to initiate and implement marketing strategies in an educational environment
  • proven ability to initiate and implement fundraising strategies
  • budget development, and relevant marketing, communication and recruitment experience
  • coherent knowledge of Newbold’s programmes of study and the unique benefits of studying these programmes at Newbold

Responsibilities the successful applicant will be expected to do include:

  • Oversee the work of Marketing, Communication, Recruitment & Alumni Relationships
  • Lead marketing and recruitment strategies, in consultation with relevant Newbold staff, focusing on target audiences relevant to Newbold’s programmes of study
  • Train recruiters to promote Newbold’s programmes to both decision shapers and makers
  • Communicate effectively with Newbold’s stakeholders, including Church administrators, Newbold Alumni and the wider Church, ensuring the currency and accuracy of information
  • Organise effective Newbold events, including Open Days and Alumni Reunions
  • Conduct fund-raising campaigns for scholarships and the development of the institution
  • Evaluate regularly the effectiveness of all strategies and make adjustments accordingly
  • Contribute actively to the wider spiritual and extracurricular life of the College
  • Engage with the community surrounding Newbold College
  • Work some evenings and weekends and travel, both nationally and internationally, as appropriate

Student Marketing and Social Media Ambassadors (part-time, two positions)

The Marketing and Communications teams seek two naturally creative and personable Ambassadors. The ideal candidates will share their own unique perspective of the Newbold experience across academia and social life on our virtual platforms, whilst supporting some of the key day-to-day administrative tasks in the department. This is an on-campus role, so successful candidates can immerse themselves in Newbold life.

The successful candidate will be/have most of the following:

  • Proactive, like to take initiative and a personal drive to go the extra mile
  • Naturally curious and able to think on your feet for content opportunities
  • The ability to work independently but also enjoy working as part of a team
  • Interested in reaching and engaging peers and prospective students from all over the world
  • Basic knowledge or skills across design (Adobe), writing and social media

Duties will include:

  • Creating, identifying and sharing content regularly on the College Instagram page. This could be a combination of planned posts in addition to spontaneous shared content (e.g. sharing visuals and thoughts from student gatherings including Experience, Vespers, NSA events etc - this may require working with colleagues and the NSA directly)
  • Supporting content creation that showcases the academic and student life experience, as well as planned marketing campaigns under the overall communications strategy
  • Research best practices in the field of university student marketing and social media reach
  • Contributing to creative ideas that will resonate with current students and appeal to prospective students who seek to follow their calling into Theological studies.
  • Creating and scheduling regular outgoing communications (e.g. The Roundup) on Mailchimp
  • Basic design and graphics creation for student screens and wider communications (e.g. weekly Sabbath posts on Facebook and Instagram)
  • Writing for our College website blog in the first-person, reporting on student events, reflecting on impactful lecturers, interviews with lecturers and peers on key themes, and discussions.
  • Assisting with gathering data for monthly reporting, and any other administrative duties that require support

The two successful candidates must be able to work for 5 hours each across the week – some of these hours may be fixed, whilst others will require flexibility for both parties.

Principal

 

The Governors of Newbold College of Higher Education, United Kingdom, seek to appoint a Principal to replace the current incumbent, whose secondment from Avondale University will end in summer 2025.

The Principal is the Chief Executive Officer of the College and is the institution’s link with its Governors, liaising with them as Secretary of the Board of Governors, and driving the decisions of the Board.

Applications are invited from those with appropriate qualifications and expertise. Applicants should demonstrate an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ and to the teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and they should be members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good and regular standing.

Selection Criteria

  • • Evidence of experience and skills in leadership and administration
  • • Academic and professional qualifications commensurate with the role
  • • Ability to implement difficult decisions
  • • Financial acumen and good business and people skills
  • • A strong sense of Seventh-day Adventist identity with particular reference to the Ten Core Commitments as mandated by Governors
  • • Understanding of sound HR management, team building, interpersonal skills and capacity building of staff
  • • Understanding of the European multicultural context of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the intellectual European climate, and the UK/European higher education landscape
  • • Ability to develop the College in the modern technological context

All applicants must be able to qualify to live and work in the United Kingdom and will normally be expected to live within reasonable commuting distance of the College to enable them to engage fully with the life of the College and of the local church community.

Starting date: 1 June 2025 or later by mutual agreement.

Salary: As per the denominational salary scale.

Campus and Estate Services
Advert for 2025 Summer

Newbold College of Higher Education, United Kingdom, seeks to appoint temporary staff to work with the Campus and Estate Services team. Successful applicants will be assigned one main area of work but may be reassigned to other department areas as needed. Tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • Grass maintenance work, shrub and herbaceous border maintenance, seasonal pruning, and annual planting of flower borders.
  • Work with grounds maintenance machinery (some training will be given).
  • Working as an assistant for the events.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by the Head of Campus and Estate Services.

Ten core commitments and recommendations

The Newbold College of Higher Education Board of Governance met on 30 September 2020 at an extraordinary meeting and voted the following Core Future Commitments and Recommendations:
  1. 1.
    Newbold has an important significance and purpose in serving the TED fields.
  2. 2.
    Newbold must adapt and restructure urgently to meet the needs of the 14 units that comprise the TED.
  3. 3.
    Newbold exists first and foremost to meet the pastoral and spiritual leadership training needs of the TED.
  4. 4.
    A new Centre for Ministry and Mission (seminary) should be the sole focus and strategic direction, with mid-2021 as the target date to ensure implementation with effect from the academic year 2021-2022 commencing in September 2021.
  5. 5.
    Planning for the new Centre for Ministry and Mission (seminary) in the areas of property, finance and staffing needs should initially be built on a margin of 80-100 students.
  6. 6.
    Newbold Centre for Ministry and Mission (seminary) provides a mix of on-campus intensives and online classes to be the new standard model of delivery with full-time and part-time programmes.
  7. 7.
    Restart regional pastoral training with a mix of online offerings and intensive classes facilitated by the TED and field leadership.
  8. 8.
    Review degree accreditation and restructure staffing to meet the paradigm shift of the new Centre for Ministry and Mission (seminary) in preparing front-line church planters, pastors, evangelists, theologians, and leaders.
  9. 9.
    Develop an investment masterplan for land and buildings to meet the physical needs of the new Centre for Ministry and Mission (seminary) and maximise on investment returns.
  10. 10.
    Improve the “Newbold culture” in terms of student experience and administrative services.
