Contract Lecturer in Science

Isabel Moraes

BEng MSc PhD

I have been teaching (part-time) science modules at Newbold College for over 20 years.

In addition to my scientific career, teaching is an activity that I really enjoy. Not only because it gives me the opportunity of sharing my knowledge with the students but also gives me the opportunity to motivate and stimulate them.

My research is focused on the development of structural biology capabilities using X-ray crystallography, X-ray Free Electron Lasers, Cryo-Electron Microscopy and other biophysical approaches to establish a comprehensive measurement system that will provide metrological foundations for structure-function relationships of macrobiomolecules (proteins and nucleic acids). This will enable exploitation of properties and functionalities in a variety of biomedical contexts including drug attrition, antimicrobial discovery, synthetic biology and cellular therapies.
