One of our challenges as pastors is that we can get so focused on our everyday work that we do not take the time to keep developing ourselves as professionals.
These courses help you keep up to date with current issues within theology and expose you to new ideas, which will inform your whole ministry.
ACTS (autumn 2023)
Analyse issues of authorship, dating, composition, literary style, and interpreting Acts within an early Christian context, deepening comprehension of exegesis with critical evaluation from an Adventist hermeneutical perspective.

BIBLICAL THEOLOGY AND PRAXIS OF MINISTRY AND MISSION (autumn 2023)
This module develops an in-depth understanding of biblical theologies of ministry and mission for the church, and provide students with tools to make biblically- informed decisions in regards to what leadership strategies, skills and qualities to apply to assist the local Christian communities in their growth toward a more fruitful ministry and mission.

HOPE, FUTURE, ESCHATON (autumn 2023)
Doing theology and pastoral ministry in the contemporary context marked by dystopia poses a major challenge. Our society and church are in a need for a fresh vision for future which is not marked by a confusion and fear, but by hope. This module aims to develop an understanding of the biblical themes of hope, future and eschaton, and appreciation of their significance for biblical eschatology. It will be grounded in an exegetical analysis of relevant biblical texts, which will be a springboard for discussing a range of contemporary theological, ethical and pastoral dilemmas from the perspective of hope.

OLD TESTAMENT PROPHETS (autumn 2023)
The aim of this module is to understand the role of the prophets, their messages, and the application of prophecies in our contemporary context. It will help you better understand your role as a spiritual leader and equip you to apply the prophetic message in pastoral ministry efficiently.

ABLEISM AND DISABILITY (spring 2024)
The need for understanding the concept of disability in the Bible and its implications is essential in a contemporary context. This module will help you grasp a broader biblical perspective on disability and equip you for an effective ministry to less abled individuals.

DANIEL AND REVELATION (spring 2024)
Studying Daniel and Revelation gives you the methodology for interpreting apocalyptic prophecies, critical evaluation of non-biblical interpretations, and sound interpretation of the prophecies. This module will prepare you to preach and teach these two exceptional books in a balanced way, with a healthy attitude towards the end-time events.

PREACHING BIBLICAL NARRATIVES (spring 2024)
This module aims to understand the principles of interpreting biblical narratives and using them as an interpretive tool for preparing effective sermons. You will improve your understanding of literary techniques used in biblical texts, apply them to your sermons and preach with inspiration, clarity and conviction.

RACE, IDENTITY & NATION (spring 2024)
Develop a sound understanding of concepts on race, identity and nation through theoretical and theological analysis, examining the influence of these concepts on biblical interpretation in contemporary contexts.

CHRISTIAN APOLOGETICS (autumn 2023)
This postgraduate module seeks to deepen students’ appreciation of the Christian faith’s intellectual, relational, aesthetic, and ethical appeal while equipping them to effectively convey, explain, and defend the gospel in contemporary cultures that often dismiss Christian perspectives. Centred on addressing the problem of evil—a paramount challenge to God’s existence—this module explores a variety of Christian responses to evil and suffering, examining questions such as: How can one make a compelling intellectual case for God amidst a world filled with pain? Why does God permit suffering? What is evil, and why does it pose a problem? How can one walk with God through pain and suffering?

PRINCIPLES AND METHODS OF THEOLOGY (autumn 2023)
This module will show you how to approach Christian and non-Christian ideas, topics, or authors and understand them in such a way as to challenge them successfully. You will learn about theological thinking, the role unrecognised assumptions play in reading and interpreting the Scripture and the reality surrounding us.

SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST THEOLOGY IN CONTEXT (autumn 2023)
This module primary studies the development of Seventh-day Adventist theology. The class initially offers an analysis of the complex historical and theological contexts in which Adventism was born, followed by a detailed discussion of the major formative periods during which Adventist theology had been formed. The class also addresses important questions of theological controversies and provides discussion aimed at indicating ways at moving beyond theological divisions. A noteworthy part of the class is given to an in- depth analysis focused on discerning correctly the prophetic contribution of Ellen White to the development of Adventist theology. As such therefore, this class is not a class in church history, but essentially a class in historical and systematic theology.

CHRISTIAN ETHICS (spring 2024)
This undergraduate module delves into biblical and theological perspectives on a range of ethical frameworks, such as deontology, consequentialism, and virtue ethics. Students gain essential analytical skills and intellectual tools to address intricate ethical dilemmas in today’s society, encompassing issues like race, gender, sexuality, abortion, euthanasia, environmentalism, AI, and warfare. The course focuses on exploring and practically applying these vital ethical approaches and principles in real- world situations.

EMERGING PERSPECTIVES IN ECCLESIOLOGY (spring 2024)
To successfully navigate rapid change and to flourish both individually and collectively in today’s complex world, Adventists must refine their ecclesiological and missiological perspectives. This module equips you with intellectual tools and frameworks for critical and constructive engagement in ongoing theological discussions on the church’s nature, role, ministry, structure, mission, ordinances, and reform. Upon completion, you will gain a clearer understanding of what it means to be a church of and for the 21st-century world. This will provide a robust and biblically-grounded theological framework to guide your future ministry.

EMERGING PERSPECTIVES IN SOTERIOLOGY AND ESCHATOLOGY (spring 2024)
This module offers in-depth historical, theological and biblical discussions of the basic elements of soteriology and eschatology. You will have the opportunity to critically engage with the specific language of salvation, concepts of justification and divine judgement and undertake a focused journey into the book of Romans and related soteriological debates.

LEADING MOTIFS IN ADVENTIST THEOLOGY (spring 2024)
Developing an understanding of unique Adventist teachings and their complex theological paradigm lies at the core of this module. You will learn to critically examine the motifs of Scripture, divine judgement and eschatology, the ‘immortality of the soul,’ the Sabbath and the salvific work of Christ and His Spirit.

THEMES IN BIBLICAL THEOLOGY (spring 2024)
Learning how to approach Scripture in its entirety as one book, telling a unified narrative about God and the world, is the foundation of this module. Starting with Genesis, you will explore biblical material in a structured way and develop an understanding of the varied themes in the Bible.

PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELLING (autumn 2023)
This module helps you understand the biblical framework for counselling and critically assess insights gained from other disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and counselling theory. It will equip you with skills you can use in practical pastoral work by helping people experiencing mental and emotional upheavals.

PLANTING AND REVITALISING HEALTHY CHURCHES (autumn 2023, spring 2024)
This module approaches church planting and revitalisation from a missiological perspective in which a biblical theology of mission will be considered in the context of those sociological and cultural factors known to impact planting churches and developing Christian discipleship.

CHURCH LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION (spring 2024)
Church leadership and administration are vital to successful ministry. This module will help you understand how your leadership development comes through in your character, skills and influence. It will enable you to assess different leadership styles and adapt them for practical use in a local church environment.

DIGITAL DISCIPLESHIP (spring 2024)
This is a cutting-edge module that will help you to gain an understanding of biblical models of communication and ministry. It will enable you to apply what you have learned to communicate the Gospel through a broad range of contemporary digital media such as social media, live streaming and radio.

ENGAGING CONTEMPORARY EUROPEAN CULTURE (spring 2024)
This module examines the basic epistemological issues relating to the interface between the contemporary worldview(s) and the world of the Bible, and that of the students in order to enable the student to view mission and evangelism in the context of the philosophical, sociological and cultural factors that constitute the dominant thought patterns in multi-cultural Europe.
