The Unchurched Generation

Written by Pastor Marcos Torres, a Seventh-day Adventist pastor, author, and podcaster based in Perth

My biggest passion in ministry is working with people with no Christianity background. I want to share the Gospel in a way that makes sense to people who do not have the same assumptions as historical Christians, protestants or Adventists. I am planting a church designed to reach this post-church secular demographic.

When I arrived in Australia, I discovered a secular culture that was on another level, and I was not ready for it. I could not find Bible study guides, which navigate the Scripture narrative meaningfully for the unchurched and even Christian young people raised in a postmodern society. I started writing my own study material, and I have been doing this for the last five years. I finally got to the point where I said, “Hey, let’s publish this.”

The most inspiring part of being a pastor is sitting down with someone seeking God, whose heart is thirsting after God, being able to accompany them on their journey, and seeing their eyes light up when they realise God loves them. Pastoral ministry is not easy. It has its ups and downs and frustrations, but when I see the love of God becoming real for people, it is most inspiring. It is beautiful.

My calling is this: God has placed on my heart a heavy burden to share the Gospel to a secular post-church world. All my energy, efforts, and tenacity focuses on this mission.
